Webberville High School 1988 Girls Softball

SPORT: GIRLS SOFTBALL

INFORMATION: The Webberville Spartans girls’ softball team opened the 1988 season on a Saturday with two losses to Chelsea (B), one loss to Lansing Eastern (A), and one loss to Portland (B). From that 0-4 start, the Spartan girls rattled off 29 straight wins and finished the 1988 regular season ranked #1 in Class D. The highlight of the year was their “impossible” capture of the Softball Classic. No Class D team has ever accomplished this feat. As a matter of fact, no Class C team has ever won this coveted championship. In the Classic, Kris Langam pitched a no-hitter in a 10-0 victory over Lansing Sexton (A). Brenda Davis then threw a 2-hiter at Holt (A) in an 8-0 victory. In the finale, it was Kris Langham again, this time throwing a 4-hitter at St. Johns (A) in a 4-3 win. The championship embellished the fact that even a “small” school can preservere against three Class A schools. The Spartans were coached by Rod Borchard. Other members of the team were: Kris Langham, Brenda Davis, Courtney Ryan, Jamie Schneider, Kelly Alchin, Karolyn Wilkey, Cheryl Lake, Liz Ide, Julie West, Kim Stout, Tonya Langham, Jeni Schneider, Mischa Miller, Karen Douglas.
